Toyota Highlander – The color of the car doesn’t attract much attention unless it’s other people. Often this means being large and overly shady. But on this day, Toyota – Yes, Toyota told me, “Hey, I’m that kind of person.”

It has to be a flashy sports car, right? No, it was a crossover SUV. The 2024 Toyota Highlander to be exact. The color of the paint is dark green called cypress. Added to the palette last year, it’s not a special paint and doesn’t even cost extra. But my test drive took place in the fall, in Michigan, during the week of peak leaf season. As they say, sincerity is everything, and this evergreen Witz story fits perfectly.

Ditching the Leaf, the 2024 Highlander gets more changes than the completely redesigned 2024. The family quarter carrier has seen only minor changes since then. For 2024, Toyota discontinued the entry-level L trim and added hands-free power steering on mid-level trims. For Highlander Hybrid models, the bronze edition has been dropped and replaced with new Solani trim.

The Toyota Highlander Hybrid Is A Big Three Row With A Buzzy Engine

Toyota trims the Highlander in LE, XLE, XSE, Limited, and Platinum grades with standard front-wheel drive (FWD), but all wheels are available with all-wheel drive (AWD). This year, the price of the 2024 Toyota Highlander ranges from at least $40,000 to $50,000, including the cost of leasing the car from the Princeton, Indiana factory to your business.

In this review of the 2024 Highlander, I tested the AWD-equipped Platinum model in metro Detroit. It came with optional equipment including floor mats, door guards, running boards, camber hammers, and metal roof rails, bringing the manufacturer’s suggested retail price to $54,757, with a destination charge of $1,395. Toyota provided the Highlander for this review.

For Toyota, there is nothing unpleasant about the Highlander’s appearance. Nothing too exciting, or he tries as hard as possible to impress the golden sun, except that it juxtaposes with the green leaves of the deep forest. But I digress.

Overall, the Highlander design has just the right amount of lean and curve to make the SUV more edgy.

Toyota outfitted my Highlander Platinum interior with a dual carbon scheme and deep caramel leather. Like the top-of-the-line Highlander, my test car had metallic accents and faux wood trim. The 12.3-inch touchscreen is the highlight of the interior, but the number of buttons, buttons and switches on the body is still good. These frequency points are well placed, easy to read and do not distract the driver or planner.

All Highlander models, regardless of configuration or trim, have three rows of seats. The flagship Le has second-row seating for eight passengers. Everyone else can opt for XLE and Limited models with a second-row driver’s seat, but bench seats.

However, no matter how heady you are, don’t expect three rows of comfort. The third row is a sitting position where the knees are placed on the chest rather than in everyday use. At least those covered by the third line restrictions can easily go back there. The tribune’s chair was moving rapidly forward. Also, the Highlander’s large rear doors make it difficult to climb into (but not so good in tight parking situations). To improve comfort, you can fold the seatbacks of the third row.

Cargo space is limited to 16 cubic feet when the third row is in use. The flag will only fit in the suitcase if it is placed horizontally, vertically or on its side. With the seat reclined to its final position, hard-sided trains will compete for space supremacy. The 60/40 split seat allows for Tetris-level seating of people and objects.

When the last row is folded down, cargo volume increases to 48.4 cubic feet. Although the formal seats don’t fold flat, the bench seat does have a 60/40 split. With the second-row seats and third-row seats folded, the Highlander has 84.3 cubic feet of cargo space.

Storage pockets and other pockets are visible throughout the interior. A good example of this is the smartphone. Last year, Toyota expanded the functionality and overall sense of space by moving this feature from the center console bin to the dashboard. My 18-inch waterproof steel water tank had plenty of room in the center console. When not in use, the charging stand doubles as a storage cabinet for non-tech items.

The Toyota Audio Multimedia infotainment system is standard on the Highlander range. Depending on the trim level, it includes an 8.0-inch or 12.3-inch touchscreen, and higher trims offer an 11-speaker JBL audio system. A larger screen and enhanced sound are standard on Highlander Limited and Platinum trims.

My phone was live and activating Apple CarPlay was as easy as a tap on the settings screen. Both wireless CarPlay and Android Auto are available. Switching between Toyota’s native system and CarPlay when the CarPlay icon didn’t appear was a hassle, but restarting the car solved the problem.

One thing to note: The Highlander’s infotainment system doesn’t have a home screen like some rivals. On the left side of the column, five icons form the main menu navigation, music, phone, vehicle and navigation icons. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto will appear as a sixth icon at the top of this column when available. The main screen will display information based on the menu selected on the menu icon.

Despite heavy ambient noise from heavy rain and off-road terrain, the Highlander’s voice assistant correctly recognized natural speech patterns and responded well to requests for vehicle adjustments when navigating to addresses.

The 2024 Highlander offers non-entertainment technology, including a standard 7.0-inch infotainment system for the LE, XLE and XSE. High-spec and Platinum models receive a 12.3-inch version of the digital gauge cluster.

A rear camera with projection functionality is standard, and the Highlander Limited and Platinum add dynamic features. A 360-degree surround camera, including a Panoramic View Monitor that allows you to see the rear, is standard on the Highlander Platinum, but is available in limited quantities. The Platinum trim adds a 10.0-inch color head-up display and a digital rearview mirror.

Smart Technology For The 2023 Toyota Highlander

The mirror protrudes and shows what is behind the car. This is useful when the third row is occupied, raised, or when there is a load on the roof. It appears to be a wide-angle shot, but I consider the image quality to be low definition. The condition is also significantly reduced. When I stopped in the street, the cars behind me seemed to be almost stuck. But when I went into the 360 camera, I saw that the other car was actually two feet away.

During the trial, I ignored the unnecessary anxiety and used the digital background image as a necessary justification. Otherwise, another eye straining screen.

In my test, the adaptive cruise control worked surprisingly well, but I felt that the traffic and lane tracking left something to be desired.

Adaptive cruise control is an easy-to-use wheel-mounted rudder to keep track of speed and distance. The system transitions smoothly between acceleration and deceleration when driving through an extended construction zone with many last-minute stops and starts. There was minimal bumpiness on breakaway, and when accelerating again, the Highlander picked up speed conservatively, but not for long.

On the other end of the safety spectrum, the Highlander has systems installed to keep it in line, and I often couldn’t tell if it was working, assisting or sleeping. The roads were clear to do so, so I would like to take the car outside the door. Whether in the center, on the edge, or in a curve, the vehicle sometimes cleared the road, but more often than not. I found him invincible.

On the plus side, the lane control system will audibly scold me when I tip over too fast or too wide. None of the other Toyota Prius ADAS feature safety warnings or pull teeth. For some, this calmness is a blessing. This is useful for me when driving and writing, especially when the road is changing.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) gave the 2024 Toyota Highlander an overall safety rating of five stars, its highest rating. This applies to both FWD and AWD models. As of publication, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has not rated the 2024 Toyota Highlander. Check the

Toyota Highlander

The petrol Highlander is powered by a turbocharged 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine. Toyota discontinued the V6 a year ago. The turbo boosts the four to 265 horsepower and 300 foot-pounds of torque. Although that’s a 30-horsepower drop from the V6’s output, it gets 47 pound-feet of torque. All Highlander gas models have an eight-speed automatic transmission.

You can choose AWD, and Toyota offers two separate systems. In LE and XLE trims, the AWD system can send half the available power to the rear wheels. The performance-oriented Dynamic Torque Vectoring AWD system is available on XSE, Limited and Platinum models.
