Porsche 911 Turbo S – The current 992 generation 911 is possibly the most useful 911 ever produced. It is also very fast. But that doesn’t mean more power and more speed wouldn’t be welcome. Enter the new 992 911 Turbo S.

Making the already turbocharged 992 911 even faster wouldn’t be a big task, as a simple tune would probably add a few hundred horsepower. But Porsche didn’t just turn the turbo up a few notches. Oh no.

First, the engine. It is a 3.8-litre twin-turbocharged boxer engine based on the standard 992 Carrera. It has 650 PS (640 hp) and 800 Nm (592 lb ft) of torque, the same torque as the new McLaren 765LT. These gains are thanks to a redesigned intercooling system, where the radiators cool the air with water after passing through the turbos before entering the engine, and a larger, more efficient intake system (there are now four intakes. ..). and new, larger turbos with variable turbine geometry (the turbine wheels measure 55 mm, an increase of five millimeters). Furthermore, the entire torque is permanently available from 2,500 to 4,500 rpm, while maximum torque on the 991 Turbo S was achieved through the “overboost” function.

This results in a 0-100 km/h acceleration of 2.7 seconds, 0.2 seconds quicker than the 991 Turbo S, and a top speed of 205 km/h.

The straight-line performance is impressive, but so are all the changes Porsche has made elsewhere. The body of the Carrera S has been widened by 20 mm, combining all the aero optimisations to provide 15 per cent more downforce, while the front axle has been lengthened by 42 mm and the rear axle by 10 mm.

Front and rear wheel and tire sizes also differ for the first time: 20-inch 255/35 tires at the front and 21-inch 315/30 tires at the rear.

Of course, it’s equipped with all-wheel drive (one day there will be a stripped-down 992 GT2 RS with rear-wheel drive), and Porsche has fitted carbon ceramic brakes as standard. The discs are larger than those of the Carrera S and have 10-piston calipers at the front.

Porsche’s “PASM” system, “Porsche Active Suspension Management”, has also been modified. According to Porsche, the adaptive dampers react faster and more precisely, reducing body roll.

Apart from the fresh, muscular look on the outside, the interior is also equipped with a lot of equipment. It features 18-way adjustable sports seats, a full leather interior, carbon trim elements, a 10.9-inch central touchscreen, a BOSE sound system, the Porsche Sport Chrono package, and the Porsche Track Precision app.

Price? £155,970 for the Turbo S and £165,127 for the Turbo S Cabriolet. Considering what the Turbo S is capable of, this is great performance for the money. The models are characterized by incredible performance with breathtaking driving dynamics. Although the basic layout of the engine has not changed, every detail has been optimized, refined and refined.

Large exhaust gas turbochargers and piezo injectors are being used for the first time. The exhaust manifolds derived from the 911 GT2 RS improve response and efficiency due to optimized flow conditions.

The intercooling and engine air intake have been completely redesigned. Previously, air for the intercooler was supplied through side air inlets in the rear wings and engine air was drawn through the tailgate grille. In the current 911, this principle was reversed.

Model. This can also be seen in the additional two-pipe air outlet for the intercooler between the tailpipes in the rear apron. This enables more efficient air flow and charge air cooling – and therefore greater performance.

Porsche 911 2021 Review: Turbo S

With launch control, the S accelerates to 100 km/h in 2.7 seconds and 200 km/h in 8.9 seconds. Top speed: 320 km/h in 911

Dual Clutch Transmission (PDK) enables extremely fast gear changes without interrupting the power flow – not even for a millisecond. Compared to previous generations, the new 8-speed PDK offers a much wider middle ground between comfort, performance and efficiency.

Adrenaline, goosebumps at the push of a button: Standard Sport Chrono package with mode switch. This enables uniform sporty tuning of the chassis, engine and transmission. The package also includes:

With the mode switch including the Sport Response button on the steering wheel, you can choose between five driving modes: “Normal”, “Sport”, “Sport Plus”, “Individual” – and thus adapt the vehicle to your individual driving mode. Customize even better. Style – and “Wet Mode”.

Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC) and rear-axle steering ensure sportier damping, increased roll stability and more direct steering in curves.

In addition, the Sport Chrono package has three additional functions. The first is Launch Control, which can be used in Sport Plus mode to get the best possible start from a standing start.

The second function is the so-called switching strategy derived from motorsport. In this mode, the PDK is designed for extremely short switching times and optimal switching points for maximum acceleration. For uncompromising, racetrack-ready performance with remarkably active shifting.

Third function: Activated via the Sport Response button in the middle of the mode switch. The engine and transmission are then tuned for the fastest possible power development. Result: Maximum response – for a duration of approximately 20 seconds.

PASM is an electronic damping control system that actively and continuously adapts the damping force at each wheel to the current road conditions and driving style – for less body roll and therefore greater comfort and greater dynamics.

The particularly high-performance PASM sports suspension in combination with a 10 mm lower body is optionally available. With tighter springs, optimized stabilizers and a new configuration of PASM dampers, the PASM sports suspension enables further improvements in driving dynamics. No major restrictions on driving comfort.

The system has been continuously developed. It is now more robust and offers better control. The result: increased accuracy and flexibility.

This system improves vehicle dynamics and stability by applying braking pressure to the rear wheels along with the rear differential lock. When the car turns confidently, moderate braking pressure is applied to the inside rear wheel. This transfers more driving force to the rear wheels on the outside of the curve, creating additional angular momentum (or yaw motion) around the vertical axis of the vehicle.

Stability management (PSM) is an automatic control system to maintain stability at the limits of dynamic driving performance. Sensors continuously monitor the vehicle’s direction, speed, yaw rate, and lateral acceleration. Using this information, the PSM is able to calculate the actual direction of travel at any time and specifically apply brakes to individual wheels to restore stability.

Rear-axle steering enhances performance and suitability for everyday use in equal measure. Benefits in everyday life: At low speeds, the system drives the rear wheels in the opposite direction to the front wheels. This actually makes the wheelbase shorter. Benefits for sporty driving: At high speeds, the system steers the rear wheels in the same direction as the front wheels.

Further development of the lift system on the front axle enables greater ground clearance at the front of the 911

, More precisely, up to about 40 mm and a speed of about 35 km/h. The system ensures that curbs, ramps and parking garage entrances are a thing of the past.

PDCC is an active roll stabilization system. This suppresses lateral body movement of the vehicle during dynamic cornering. The permanently controlled rolling torque distribution between the front and rear axles ensures that the driving behavior is optimally adapted to every driving situation. For improved dynamics, even more neutral handling and greater driving comfort – at any speed.

The brakes of the models are equipped with six-piston aluminum monoblock fixed callipers at the front and four-piston aluminum monoblock fixed callipers at the rear, each brake disc diameter: 408 mm at the front and 380 mm at the rear. Black painted fixed brake calipers are also available as an option.

S. The PCCB’s perforated ceramic brake discs have a diameter of 420 mm at the front and 390 mm at the rear: for even greater braking performance. They are approximately 50% lighter than cast brake discs of similar design and size. The result: a reduction in uncontrolled congestion and thus better road holding and greater comfort, especially on uneven roads, as well as greater agility and even better handling.
