The 2021 Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S Coupe arrives to offer power crossover buyers a sleeker alternative to the boxy Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S. The new variant of the coupe-inspired crossover features the brand’s familiar 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 with an extra helping of 48 -volt EQ Boost starter-generator. This setup offers 603 hp. (450 kilowatts) and 627 pound-feet (850 Newton-meters) of torque, plus 21 hp. (16 kW) and 184 lb-ft (250 Nm) from the EQ Boost system. Power comes through a nine-speed automatic transmission, and there’s four-wheel drive with an electronically controlled rear differential lock. The GLE 63 S Coupe can accelerate to 60 mph (96 km/h) in 3.7 seconds and on to an electronically limited top speed of 174 mph (280 km/h).

Along with the AMG sport pedals in polished stainless steel with rubber studs, the door sills and black floor mats with “AMG” lettering underline the sporty look. The handcrafted 4.0-liter V8 biturbo engine in the new GLE 63 S Coupe is also equipped with an integrated EQ Boost starter-generator. It combines starter and alternator in one powerful electric motor, compactly integrated between engine and transmission. An additional 21 hp of power plus 184 lb-ft of torque can be temporarily used to provide responsive acceleration characteristics as well as unique efficiency characteristics. This is because this innovative component feeds the vehicle’s 48-volt electrical system and can be used as a power generator and also to perform hybrid functions. These include boost, recuperation, load point shift, drift and virtually seamless engine restart with start/stop functionality.
