Lexus Nx 350h – Home > Tech > Auto > LSA Review: The Lexus NX 350h – An ergonomic genius and nifty hybrid
We are behind the wheel of the new Lexus NX 350h – Sporty-yet-luxe, technologically advanced, and supercharged crossover starting at Rs 65 lakhs (Ex-Showroom).
Lexus Nx 350h
With the second NX in the game, Lexus has a clear vision of what they want to establish – their “people-centric” approach to building luxury cars, technology being their next weapon and putting a powerful chip on the table. Thinking about it, they managed to pull it off in Japanese fashion. It’s a family story that’s well-crafted through a mixture of pee, but most importantly, it’s fun. It doesn’t look like those German SUVs. It’s a playful combination of all the good things. Last week, we headed down to the Hilton Shillim Estate Retreat & Spa to check out the new Lexus NX 350h. Here’s what we think.

Let’s start with the design – It embraces the classic silhouette of the NX, only improving on what is already brilliant. Although, it looks a little sharp. We see this in the clear game of everything about the exterior of the car. This is more popular than the F Sport variant, which is the top-of-the-line model. DRLs accompany the headlights with four projectors, adding to the compact and stylish look. The signature Lexus Spindle grille is now, better than ever. Also, being a sport variant we see a ton of small changes, in particular, a slim metal roof at the bottom of the front. Overall, the NX 350h looks great—and boasts its visual appeal. It’s playful but unique, which seems to be exactly what’s going on. It is also equipped with solid 20-inch wheels.
Already impressed? Wait until you see what’s inside the house. The NX 350h is definitely a pure driver’s car but it’s also technogeek heaven. It’s like a Lexus booby-trapped inside with some cool tech. Everywhere you look and reach your hand, there is ergonomically thought, and beautiful design waiting for you. I think it was this part of the NX 350h that won me over. Attention to detail and careful attention to every control, knob, or button is designed, all to enhance the driving experience.
I will have to write another article about the technical stuff but I will show the things that interested me. First things first, the large 14-inch touchscreen display is your one-stop destination for all entertainment, home controls, navigation, and driving updates. It is also, boldly, completely controlled, as if they put an iPad on my dashboard. Next, is the E-Lock system. The door handles no longer open and close electrically, they are controlled electrically by a small button on the handle. This technique is derived from the opening and closing movements of traditional Japanese sliding doors. Also, a 17-speaker Mark Levinson sound system comes with the F-Sport and Luxury variants. Finally, there is one toy that I love – the inside of the door handle boasts a mounting mat, just in case there’s an unnoticeable wobble.
Lexus has a “personal” approach to their cars, and it’s something they’ve always been proud of. This is seen more than ever with the ‘TAZUNA’ concept that we see in the new NX. He believes in “Eyes on the Road, Hands on Tactics, Intuitive Interface”. This requires a deep connection between the driver and the car, with various features designed for this in mind. Head-up displays above the steering wheel come with another purpose – to eliminate the buffer time when our eyes get used to the road lighting and the dark electronic dashboard. While the speed is already part of the head-up display, there is also a small screen for other driving settings, all controlled by intuitive buttons on the steering wheel. You can simply slide your fingers over these buttons and see them in real-time on the head-up display.

To further assist drivers, the Lexus NX 350h boasts of Off-Road System (PCS) for vehicle detection with alarm, Radar Cruise Control -All Speed, Lane Departure Alert & Lane Tracing Assist, Auto High Beam & Adaptive High beam System in Headlamps. . In addition, Blind Spot Monitor, Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) & Rear Camera Detection (RCD), and many more. Safe to say, this car is full of technology, intelligence, and talent combined.
Yes, they are young. And not just any hybrid, charging it. I think this is a great achievement considering India’s transition to EV is still slow, in terms of charging infrastructure and familiarity with electric driving. Self-charging upgrades leave you with one less thing to worry about – regular plug-in charging. The car constantly switches between the 2.5-L V4 engine and the 259-volt battery pack, and has very little engine noise at all. Beyond that, it’s AWD. While the ride is smooth and Lexus has improved handling and handling, I’m still looking for a punch of power, especially from an electric motor. The combined output is 240-horsepower which is very good but can be increased in my opinion. However, Lexus compensates for this with mileage and efficiency, thanks to the electric car.
The Lexus NX 350h is definitely a driver’s car. It’s the kind of car you can drive to work, zoom on the weekends, and take long trips. In typical Japanese style, it is built with care, quality, and full of craftsmanship. If the crossover, hybrid segment and reasons such as cabin tech, always progress, the NX 350h hit three birds with one stone. Of course, it costs less than its competitors, but it certainly makes a convincing argument in itself. Technology is the main theme here. Whether it’s driving technology, entertainment, or home management, I think that’s what I’m most interested in. So if you’re looking for a smart driving experience and a nice cabin, this is it.
