Lexus Lx 600: A New Standard In Comfort And Capability

Lexus Lx 600: A New Standard In Comfort And Capability – 2022 Lexus LX 600 Launched as the Lux version of the all-new Land Cruiser, the Luxobarge will also get dual touchscreens for the first time and F Sport and Ultra Luxury trims.

Better late than never, the third-generation Lexus LX is finally retiring after no less than 14 years on the market. The all-new SUV brings improvements on all fronts, starting with a new platform that sheds 441 pounds (200 kilograms) from its predecessor, making it worth the wait. If that rings a bell, the new Toyota Land Cruiser, which is not sold in the U.S. US, lost the same amount of fat as a result of switching to the TNGA-F platform.

Styling is what everyone has guessed, with a side profile that suggests the LX is more closely related to its more mainstream Toyota equivalent. It is worth noting that the Lexus has a slightly different quarter glass and rear pillar, but the rest of the silhouette is almost identical. A massive spindle grille at the front and a wide LED light bar at the rear represent the main changes on the outside compared to the LC, along with a more liberal use of chrome.

It’s in the cabin that the revised Mercedes GLS gets a Lexus-first dual touchscreen setup. Measuring 12.3 inches, the top screen shows navigation and audio controls, as well as the multi-terrain monitor system’s off-road details when you’re off the beaten path. The lower seven-inch screen provides quick access to climate settings and can work as a support screen for Multi-Terrain Select by showing the camera feed on the top screen and off-road data on the smaller display.

For the first time since the launch of the LX in 1995, the body-on-frame SUV gets an ultra-luxury view with a four-seat arrangement that features independent rear seats that recline up to 48 degrees for added comfort. The front passenger seat folds down at the push of a button for 43 inches (110 cm) of extra legroom, and there’s also a deployable footrest that comes from behind the front seat.

The LX Ultra gets additional goodies including luxury overhead ceiling vents, reading lights and a rear-seat entertainment system with dual screens as standard equipment. Lexus has equipped the high-end version with sunshades on the side and quarter windows, along with reclining headrests and comfortable seats that include backrests and cushions. A center screen between the rear seats offers a level of functionality typically associated with high-end executive sedans.

Another first for the LX is the F Sport trim, which rides on unique 22-inch alloy wheels – the largest available for a luxobarge. It’s more than just a visual package, because the Lexus Torsen also installs a limited slip differential for better rear axle traction. The F Sport Class comes with bespoke tuning for the front and rear dampers as well as a rear stabilizer and variable suspension and different settings for the electric power steering.

There are no surprises under the hood, with a naturally aspirated 5.7-liter V8 engine missing from the twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6 shared with the Land Cruiser. It pumps out 409 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque, thus bringing an improvement of 26 hp and 76 lb-ft over its predecessor. Output is routed to the road via a ten-speed automatic transmission that replaces the old eight-speed box.

Like all three predecessors, the 2022 Lexus LX has the “golden ratio” of a 112-inch wheelbase, but the approach and departure angles are carried over from the third-gen model. Useful off-road features include climb and downhill assist control, not to mention active height control with more positions than before.

Lexus will have the fourth-generation LX in dealers in the United States in the first quarter of 2022. A number of changes come with the new generation of LX, including a change from the LX 570 to the LX 600

Under the hood of the new LX is a turbocharged six-cylinder engine to replace the previous V8.

The new body style for the revised Lexus LX 600 does not change the dimensions much, but reduces its weight.

Signature Lexus design elements such as bullethead rear glass, accented fenders and strong body panels are found on the new generation LX.

The rear hatch of the new LX is flatter and squarer compared to the outgoing one, retaining cargo space and ease of access.

Cargo space in the 2023 Lexus LX 600 is good, with a long flat floor with a third row.

With the larger Lexus LX now in its fourth generation, the new LX 600 marks this new iteration. It’s Lexus’ biggest SUV, and this generation has seen some big changes. A turbocharged V6, a lighter-weight chassis and an improved interior design are some of them.

The new generation Lexus LX 600 has been updated from the ground up. It actually debuted in the 2022 model year and remains essentially unchanged for 2023. Its new chassis, based on a completely reworked Toyota Tundra pickup truck, is more rigid and lighter in weight than the thicker truck base used before. This light weight is enhanced by a smaller, lighter engine.

Lexus has dropped the big V8 that previously powered the LX 570, opting for the same turbocharged 3.4-liter V6 found in the new Tundra. The engine produces 409 horsepower (305 kW) in the LX 600, a boost from the 383 hp (286 kW) found in the previous generation. Torque has been improved to 479 lb-ft (649.5 Nm) versus the previous 403 lb-ft (546 Nm). Engine output is good in the new turbo-6, balanced between low-end rpm and the mid-range workplace of the engine. A 10-speed automatic transmission is a new addition to this power plant. Four-wheel drive is standard with a low-speed transfer case.

The new engine of the 2023 Lexus LX 600 also comes with improved fuel economy. The EPA rates the LX 600 at 22 mpg (10.7 L/100 km) on the highway, a nice jump from the previous gen’s teenage numbers. In the real world, on a 42-mile (68 km) highway loop, we managed to meet that number, but just barely. Most drivers are probably at least one point above the EPA as a norm.

The 2023 LX 600 has a massive, spacious interior. There are a couple of options for this, with the third row seats now folding the seats into the floor when not in use – instead of up and to the side as before, which took up a fair amount of potential cargo space. . Some packages do not have a third row option, however, so shop carefully when purchasing. The LX 600 is the most versatile setup you can get with second row captain’s chairs (which are premium-level chairs, as in the front) and third row.

Another big improvement for the Lexus (and Lexus in general) is the phase-out of the old joystick/mousepad control system for the infotainment system. Lexus is more intuitive and clear to use in favor of standard touchscreens. This setup is less distracting than the clunky bounce of the select cursor in the previous user interface.

Lexus has started adding more USB ports for charging, now with them in places accessible to the second row. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, while a second-row wireless charging pad is an option. You can even get massage seats there if you are so inclined. But not further. There is no Alexa-like voice prompt interface like the German rival’s vehicles.

Storage is great in the 2023 Lexus LX 600. There are convenient spaces in the front and in the second row for devices, drinks, etc. There is 41 cubic feet (1,161 liters) of cargo space behind the second row and a third as much as that allocated in the third row. Towing is rated at 8,000 lb (3,629 kg) for even more options. There is no integrated trailer brake controller, however, which limits maximum towing to 5,000 pounds or less (2,268 kg). It is odd that it is not included as it is standard on the new Tundra with the LX.

Lexus Lx 600: A New Standard In Comfort And Capability

On the road, the big Lexus LX 600 is still a stunning, body-rolling SUV. It’s definitely a truck, not a sports car, but visibility is good and maneuverability where it counts (parking spaces, garages) is better than expected. It has a comfortable, confident ride that soaks up the road well.

Pricing for the 2023 Lexus LX 600 starts at around $88,000 before delivery and options. Like the Tundra pickup truck, we expect the LX to eventually get a hybrid
