Still, there’s no denying the big blue has a charm to its name, despite its age (Lexus has updated it twice since its launch, in 2014 and now in 2020). Most of the new SUVs look and drive like hell compared to the GX. For customers looking for a stylish and comfortable SUV that will last for years, this car is worth considering. But, outside of a small segment of consumers, it’s easy and fun and not stupid.
Modern cars are packed with technology from the factory because more and more consumers are demanding it. As the average new car price rises, there is an expectation that more will come as a result, and rightly so.
In the three most expensive SUV segments, the offerings of companies like the BMW X5, Mercedes-Benz GLE, and Audi Q7 fill the list of consumer preferences with the latest equipment. More, more information? Yes. More engine options, turbochargers or lighter versions? It makes sense. Not to mention the addition of a list of active safety functions such as the speed limiter and adaptive cruise control. Unless you’re talking about the Lexus GX, these cars will give you that if you’re willing to pay for it.

Lexus has large, easy-to-use buttons and buttons to control the temperature and the top. All settings seem dated, but online learning is zero. This is not something that is often mentioned when inspecting modern vehicles.
As for the touchscreen navigation system, it takes a while to get up and running, just like your computer in 2005. The navigation system is slow to respond to input, and renders the information, close to the image. Under the hood, the simple mantra is powered by a standard 4.6-liter V8 engine. While the company has focused on hybrid technology elsewhere, it’s the GX’s only engine, and it’s paired with an old-school four-speed automatic transmission. In fact, the big V8 is pretty cool. It’s light and powerful, with a funny engine that kicks in when your legs ask for it. The power is linear but not overwhelming; 306 and 321 lb-ft of torque are enough to push the 5,100-lb.
But the bad news. The extra weight is placed on the line resulting in very impressive gas mileage: 15 city, 19 highway, and 16 combined. Every single one of Germany’s top contenders has a top speed of 21 mph or more. Lexus’s V8 is strong and efficient, but lack of gear or forced induction cuts you down at the pump.
Choose The Luxury Of Freedom: The 2019 Lexus Gx 460
Appearance aside, the GX 460 knows how to turn on the charm. There are some great things we can’t take away from this car, chief among them being comfort. The folks at Lexus have always known how to create a comfortable cabin, and the GX is no exception. Every major touch point, including the center console and door panels, is covered in soft leather or high-quality wood. The heated and ventilated seats are amazing, with extra space and enough support for most passengers.
The same goes for the second and third rows, although the further back you go, the more legroom you’ll get. At the push of a button, the third row folds down, leaving 46.7 cubic meters of cargo space, which is significantly better than the 11.6 cubic meters with three rows up. There’s nothing fancy or new about the cabin, but given the GX’s tank-like rear, it’s an undeniably comfortable place that might surprise some.
While the 4Runner has more off-road chops than its cousin, the GX is lighter on the road.
Let’s not forget that the car is sold abroad as Land Cruiser Prado and it has automatic transmission and rear suspension. The GX also has all four-wheel drive clocks with small motors and tracking. The car is more off-road than the Range Rover Sport and, if we’re being honest, probably more so.
Our New Gx 460 Luxury With Off Road Package
Although the 4Runner has the off-road chops of its cousin (although it has less ground clearance than the Lexus), the GX hits the ground running. With well-tuned dampers, the GX breathes through almost anything the pavement has to offer. The handling of road and wind noise is the best of any SUV on the road today, with a strong noise output from the V8.
It’s great to take the GX460 on the road, even over roads that feel like it shouldn’t be off-road. The Lexus features are attractive and controlled and the interior design is very good. But it is not a good value.
Obviously using words like that doesn’t make much sense when evaluating a vehicle, but that’s what we’re left with. The Lexus GX 460 is not worth the money. Starting at $53 and $100, the GX costs a few grand more than its closest competitors, but at a lower price for what it offers.
The GX model features retro styling and a smooth cream interior. But everything you love about this car now will still be half its pre-market value in 10 years. Spend $60,000 and buy something that will serve as your daily driver’s crossover. Now on the road, if a capable weekend warrior SUV is calling your name, the GXs step up a notch. The 2023 Lexus GX460 arrived at my house and it seems to match the previous 2020. . The 2023 model had an Atomic Silver finish like the other models. It’s a shame that the GX460 doesn’t come in any better colors besides Nori Green Pearl on the exclusive Black Line. Front and rear spoilers are added to the Sport Package, so keep an eye on them when tackling road obstacles.
