At the heart of the new QX80 is a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 that churns out 450 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque, replacing both numbers from the 5.6-liter V8. Power is sent to either the rear or the entire wheel via a nine-speed manual transmission.

How The Infiniti Qx80 Pushes The Brand Closer To Ultra Luxury Territory
Thank you for writing to our newsletter. Check your inbox for regular newsletters, reviews and offers. Here’s something that doesn’t happen often: Infiniti did something new. Nissan’s luxury arm hasn’t seen much investment in the recent past, but that has changed with the flagship QX80 SUV. The full-size model is in its third generation for the 2025 model year, and while it’s as big a boat as ever, it’s a big step toward modernization that Infiniti says shows what’s to come when other new models follow suit. .
The 2025 QX80 has undergone a massive aesthetic overhaul and its mechanical bits are also new. Gone is the previous generation’s 400-horsepower 5.6-liter V-8 and seven-speed automatic transmission. A 450-horsepower, twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V-6 is new to this year’s QX80, and it’s paired with a nine-speed manual transmission. The upgraded six-pot pushes the big SUV perfectly, and while we miss the V-8’s brash attack, we suspect most buyers will appreciate the extra power and quieter operation of the six.
According to Infiniti, the QX80’s available all-wheel-drive system uses a similar logic to setting up the Nissan GT-R, but make no mistake, this three-ton truck still drives like a three-ton truck. New air suspension is standard on all but the base Pure and when set to Sport mode it does a good job of keeping the Volt’s body under control when cornering. But this does not slide over every crack in the road. Although reasonably comfortable and with a soft ride, we drove the autograph top-of-the-range model, equipped with the largest 22-inch wheels, although the box was slightly attached to the frame when running on rough tarmac.
It was during the winding roads near Napa, California that we noticed the size of the QX80 the most. Its width makes it difficult in the tight lane and its weight works against you when you try to do so
