Genesis Gv80: Sophisticated Innovation Redefined – NEW YORK, April 3, 2023 – House unveiled the GV80 Coupe Concept at an exclusive event in New York. The GV80 four-passenger coupe adds a new dimension to the concept, emphasizing the duality of the brand by showing the duality of the design, the contrast and the combination of the athletic and elegance parameters of the ‘design philosophy’.
Inspired by the X Speedium Coupe Concept unveiled in New York last year, the GV80 Coupe Concept combines the practicality of a lifestyle-oriented SUV with the dynamics of a sports car. It is a visual statement that shares the aspirations for a more emotional, performance-oriented vehicle and a preview of future programs.
Genesis Gv80: Sophisticated Innovation Redefined
“In the beginning, the brand started as a luxury sedan, which evolved into the G70, G80 and G90 models,” said Group Chief Creative Officer Luke Donkervolk “Over the past seven years, we have added lifestyle-oriented models to the portfolio, such as the GV80 and GV70 SUVs Now we’re pushing the envelope with more emotional cars that ‘enhance performance and dynamic attributes.’
Genesis Gv80 Sets Record Sales In First Half Of The Year
The front fascia of the GV80 Coupe Concept features a double G-matrix pattern crest grille flanked by quad headlights, which have evolved from Multi-Lens Array Technology (MLA) for smooth lighting performance. Cooling is optimized by four slots inside the bumper that reduce the shadow thermal flow.
The rear-wheel drive platform provides the basis for the GV80 Coupe Concept’s long hood and generous dash-to-axle ratio. This pure proportion is further emphasized by the anti-wedge parabolic line. It is complemented by muscular fenders that contrast with the elegant silhouette of the vehicle.
The front fender wears a ‘Design By’ plaque that highlights the distinctive character of the model while the five-spoke forged aluminum wheels and carbon fiber roof – which contribute to the dynamic driving qualities of the GV80 Coupe Concept by lowering the center of gravity and reducing weight. – Emphasizing the sporty character of the vehicle.
To further improve its driving dynamics, the aerodynamic fluidity of the vehicle is optimized by the high rear spoiler and the spoiler lip on the elliptical hollow duck tail, which provides downforce at speed. A smooth rear light completes the signature two lines at the back.
Genesis Gv80 First Drive Review: Style And Substance
The bold design of this model is also emphasized by its Magma exterior color, which is inspired by the unique Korean ethos. Describing the color, Donkervolk said: “The color symbolizes Korea’s confident and passionate attitude. The first impression is calm, efficient, disciplined and humble, fittingly contrasted with high performance and an extroverted attitude.
Continuing the exterior theme, the interior of the GV80 Coupe Concept contrasts between the elegant beauty of the philosophy of open space and athletic features. The three-spoke steering wheel plays an important role in emphasizing the sportiness of the GV80 Coupe Concept’s interior, which contrasts with black nappa and suede leather with plaid double stitching, orange piping and carbon fiber woven on functional surfaces.
Four bucket seats provide body support during cornering, contributing to the safety and comfort of passengers, while the remaining carbon fiber is painted in body color to further emphasize the GV80 Coupe Concept’s extroverted character. The body’s structural rigidity is reinforced by a G-Matrix strut brace behind the bucket seats.
The GV80 Coupe Concept underlines the company’s commitment and ambition to deliver innovative luxury products with bold emotional resonance. For more information, please visit https://news.ca/en/. The GV80 is the first offering in the Genesis SUV lineup until the 2021 model year. It is built on the same underpinnings as the midsize G80 sedan but is not available (for now) with the powertrain of the G80 electric model. GV80 is a two- or three-row mid-size luxury SUV that competes with the likes of Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class, Lexus RX and Volvo XC90.
Genesis Unveils The First Ever Gv80 Coupe And The Redesigned Gv80
The GV80 is an ultra-luxury midsize SUV that has quickly overtaken the segment’s mainstay, but a lack of refinement is holding it back. We have no complaints about the interior’s stunning materials, understated design and spacious layout, but the infotainment system can take some time to get used to. The exterior design is unique and luxurious.
Where the improvement is lacking is in the GV80’s powertrain. The four- and six-cylinder options are a little rough, and the base engine doesn’t have enough power to motivate a large SUV. Also, the twin-turbo V-6 doesn’t offer much of a performance advantage. More problematic, though, the GV80 rides harder than one might expect from a luxury vehicle.
Despite its significant flaws, the GV80 is an attractive luxury SUV that we expect to see more of with a midcycle update, perhaps in 2024. The Genesis is the first crack at disrupting the midsize luxury segment.
Like its GV70 brother, the GV80 is offered with a pair of turbocharged engines, both mated to an eight-speed automatic system and AWD. The entry-level 2.5-liter turbo-four puts out 300 hp and 311 lb-ft of torque, capable of 0-60 mph in 6.4 seconds as our testing showed. EPA fuel economy numbers read 20/24 mpg city/highway.
Genesis Gv80 Finally Debuts As The World’s Latest Luxury Suv
Hungry buyers should look into the optional 3.5-liter twin-turbo V-6, which is good for 375 hp and 391 lb-ft of torque. Remember, that V-6 model isn’t faster; Its 0-60-mph time is 6.0 seconds, less than half a second faster than the four-cylinder GV80. Also, efficiency drops to 18/23 mpg.
The GV80 is one of a handful of Genesis models to receive a 2022 Top Safety Pick+ award from the IIHS, and also received a five-star overall safety rating from the NHTSA (despite the four-star frontal crash and rollover scores). Shoppers comparing prices across segments should note that Genesis includes most of its active safety features in all trims, such as adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, and rear and side cross-traffic alerts as standard. . The GV80 Prestige also includes a blind-spot camera feed displayed in the instrument cluster.
The Genesis GV80’s standard 14.5-inch touchscreen infotainment display impresses. If the driver doesn’t like reaching for the screen, the infotainment controls on the center console have been redesigned to be more usable for 2023. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are both standard, as is the 8.0-inch instrument cluster display, but higher trims include a 3-D gauge cluster 12.3 inch digital. The entry-level model has 12-speaker audio, and the Lexicon Premium 21-speaker system with active noise cancellation can print if the audio file is too cut.
Following in the footsteps of Porsche Cayenne Coupe and Mercedes GLE Coupe, Genesis may offer its own sloped roof SUV. The GV80 Coupe Concept debuted ahead of the April 2023 New York Auto Show, featuring a carbon fiber roof, rear spoiler, and headlights and taillights that appear as thin lines on the vehicle. Inside, the four-passenger cabin is decked out in Nappa leather, carbon fiber accents and sporty seats with carbon fiber backrests.

For our money, we recommend the GV80 2.5T Advanced. The twin-turbo V-6 doesn’t offer much performance advantage to offset its inferior fuel economy, and the 20-inch wheels that come with the Advanced trim offer better ride quality than the 22s included in the Prestige level. Plus, you still get desirable luxury features like a panoramic sunroof, a 360-degree camera system and remote smart parking assist.
The GV80’s elegant interior and great feature-per-dollar value help it stand out, though its harsh ride, underpowered base engine and clunky infotainment will deter some buyers.
